Jerry Doug Ellis, 31, Highway 68, Tellico Plains, was arrested by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday on 15 warrants taken out against him by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

The charges began to pile up at 9:50 p.m. on Nov. 12, 2007, when Ellis, from inside his truck while parked on a public roadway, used a spotlight while shooting and killing a deer outside of the hunting season inside the residential neighborhood, Kahite. After the shooting, Ellis loaded the deer into his truck and left the scene. For this event, Ellis was charged with hunting or killing big game in closed season, spotlighting deer, hunting from a motor vehicle, shooting from a public road, and transporting and/or possessing illegally killed deer.

Later that night, at 1:40 a.m. on Nov. 13, 2007, Ellis was at it again this time hunting on the Kahite golf course. This time police caught up to him and he was found in possession of a loaded .50-caliber muzzleloader, a handheld Nitelite spotlight, a stolen digital camera and a pill bottle containing blue and white pills. Fresh blood was found in the truck and a freshly killed deer was found hidden in the weeds near Ellis’ truck. He told TWRA officers that he hit something on the golf cart path causing damage to his vehicle. Ellis did not possess a valid hunting license and his hunting privileges had been revoked for prior wildlife violations.

This time, Ellis was charged with spotlighting deer, theft under $500, aggravated criminal trespassing, possession of a legend drug, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, hunting while revoked, hunting and killing deer during closed season, possessing and transporting deer during closed season, and hunting from a motor vehicle.

Ellis also had a violation of parole for failure to appear.
