If you or somebody you know is in need of a furry friend, try the Sweetwater City Pound. On any given day, there are numerous cats, kittens, dogs and puppies waiting to meet you.

Once the animals arrive at the pound, they are kept for seven days before they can be adopted out. You can adopt one of the animals at the city’s pound for free, however the animals have not had any shots and are not spayed or neutered. They are fed and bathed.

According to city officials, if no one claims an animal, it will eventually be taken to the Monroe County Animal Shelter or taken to a veterinarian to be put to sleep.

In recent days, a large group of puppies arrived at the pound. They have since been taken to the county’s animal shelter but city officials say a large number of friendly pets still await a good home.

The pound is located off of the new Highway 322 connector next to the wastewater treatment plant.

It’s a good idea to call one of the numbers listed above first if you think you might wish to adopt an animal because the pound is not staffed constantly.
