A former BP manager has turned herself in to authorities on a theft over $10,000 charge for allegedly stealing about $30,000 from the convenience store where she worked.
Sweetwater Police Detective John Scruggs said Sherri LeeAnn Haulk, 31 of Athens stole small amounts and some larger amounts of money from the BP located near the post office and it added up to a lot during a year’s time.
“She was changing the books,” Scruggs said.
According to the detective, Haulk would take anywhere from a dollar to $500 a day.
However, Scruggs said the district manager discovered the theft and reported it to him. “He found some of the paperwork,” Scruggs said.
The detective began his investigation but said Haulk at first gave him conflicting stories before finally owning up to stealing the money.
