Politics, economy make headlines

Published: 4:20 PM, 07/01/2008

Phylis Bellamy beat me to it Friday when she declared the year half over.
It’s my job to usually say, May is gone or June is gone and my favorite thing to say this time of year is, well, what Phylis said.

Now that she has let the cat out of the bag I can look back at the first six months of 2008….what I can remember of it at least.
Seems like we spent the first six months of 2008 with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama joined at the hip.

Obama finally won the Democrat presidential race a few weeks ago and now Hillary has to go around with her lips in a pucker……
You know where I am going.

I have never been a big Hillary fan but has any vanquished candidate ever had to kiss up to the winner any more than she has?
CNN the other night had body language experts trying to determine how much Obama and Hillary really like each other.

Through the growth of cable and talk radio, conservatives have a much larger voice than when I was growing up.
But it’s still easy to see how far left networks like CNN lean and they are so desperate for a win in November they are obsessed with how hard Hillary can kiss Obama’s behind.
That’s the only explanation I have for it.

Now before you go painting me into a corner, I am too poor to be a Republican.
I guess I have joined the ranks of people calling themselves  “Independents.”
But I can still see this Obama love fest some of the networks have.
Another big story nationally and locally has been the economy.

Gas prices have hit record highs the first half of this year and it looks like we could hit $4 locally any day for a gallon of regular unleaded.
The housing market has been in major trouble for months and inflation with high gas and food prices is going up and up.
Last week’s announcement that Sea Ray in Vonore had laid off about 150 workers shows just how bad things have gotten.

Who in the heck can buy a boat when every expense you have has shot through the roof?
Let’s all hope for a better second half of 2008.
