The Sweetwater chapter of the Future Farmers of America was named 2007-2008 Overall District Champions for the Cherokee District FFA. They won this award by winning the district in Land Judging, Dairy Judging, Job Interview, Livestock Judging, Meats Judging and Envirothon. They placed second in Parliamentary Procedure, Opening/Closing Ceremonies, Creed Speaking and Quiz Bowl. The Cherokee District of FFA includes McMinn County, McMinn Central, Polk County, Meigs County, Walker Valley, Bradley Central, Sequoyah, Sweetwater and Tellico Plains.
Ten members of the Sweetwater FFA recently closed out their successful year with a trip to leadership camp at Camp Clement in Doyle. While at camp, the officer team and members attended leadership classes and participated in sports and other activities such as Quiz Bowl and Quiz Contest. Thirteen chapters from across the state were represented at camp.
At week’s end Sweetwater was the only chapter that received leadership awards for each of their campers. The team members won three bronze awards and six silver awards. Shane Watson received a gold leadership award, the highest award given. Sweetwater FFA’s faculty advisors are Mitch and Katherine Ingram.
