Mason followed Winkler and also saw him nearly run another car off the road at Three Point Market. Mason tried to stop the car, but Winkler took off at a high rate of speed, passing more cars as he went.
Mason followed Winkler down Old Highway 68, onto Craighead Road, then back onto 68 where other deputies joined the chase. From there they drove onto Old Athens Road and finally onto Doc Miller Road where Winkler got out of the car at the Ridge Road intersection and took off on foot.
Winkler was taken into custody in a field off Big Oak Drive. Mason said he searched Winkler’s car and found several plastic bags as well as a glass pipe, all of which can be used for drugs.
Winkler is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a revoked license, felony fleeing, and felony reckless endangerment.
