Sweetwater's election is Thursday.
It seems like the campaign has been going on for a year and the liquor by the drink issue has been a divisive one for our community.
Whatever happens Thursday on that hot-button issue, I hope the community comes together and moves forward.
I am not going to spend much time on liquor by drink.
I guess enough has been written and said about that.
What has been more interesting to me has been the mayor's race and the commission race.
I think we have a good group of candidates running for thankless offices in tough economic times.
I commend them for that.
I don't live in the city limits and would not want to advise people how to vote, regardless.
But during these tough times, I urge voters to pick the most thoughtful candidates and the ones who have come up with the most specific plans and ideas.
A small city election is not played out like a big national presidential campaign where the candidates' every move is played out on TV and in print.
Most of what's said by the local candidates is said in stores, on front porches or maybe at church.
But I dare say a Sweetwater election is covered like no other small-town election in this area.
I read lots of surrounding papers so I can say that with a lot of confidence.
City voters have had several forums they could attend and those forums were covered in our paper and broadcast on WLOD.
Our paper has tried to stick to the issues that affect the community.
In many ways the same problems plaguing Sweetwater two years ago are here today or have gotten worse.
So go let your voice be heard.
