A Madisonville man who kept junked cars in his yard and allegedly traded prescription medicine from his house has been indicted by the Monroe County grand jury.
Dennis Lee Meadows, 35, was indicted on 10 counts of selling a Schedule III narcotic, 10 counts of selling a Schedule II narcotic, possession of a deadly weapon while attempting to sell morphine, possession of a prohibited weapon, altering serial numbers, theft under $500, two counts sell and delivery of hydrocodone and the sell and delivery of dihydrocodeinone.
Meadows had four charges dismissed in Monroe County General Sessions Court despite reports he threatened a Vonore police officer and his family while in jail. Meadows was arrested April 21 after a joint investigation by several law enforcement agencies showed he was allegedly selling and trading the drugs and some of the cars in his yard may have been stolen.
Charges of theft over $500, possession of an unlawful weapon, altering serial numbers and animal cruelty were dismissed.
Meadows mother, Effie Meadows, was also indicted by the grand jury on charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, altering serial numbers and theft under $500.
Indictments have also been handed down for two other people, but they have yet to be picked up by authorities.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Madisonville and Vonore police departments and the 10th and 5th Judicial Drug Task Forces all worked on the undercover operation, which covered two months.
Monroe County Sheriff's Drug Officer Conway Mason said Meadows, 35, had been recorded trading pills for a car to a DTF undercover agent. Mason also said a TV stolen from a Rent A Center store had been recovered at the Hull Road home.
The home on Wayman had long been an eyesore for Madisonville, with cars and car parts scattered everywhere. Many complaints had been made to Madisonville City Hall, but the property sat just feet outside the city limits and the county had no zoning rules against junkyards. All the cars were removed from the property as part of the investigation.
In addition to the recovered cars, officers also found several weapons in the house, including a sawed off shotgun.
