Vonore City Police suspect that two scamming incidents are connected.

On June 23, at about 3:41p.m., Officer Eric Watson was dispatched to Exxon E-Z Stop on Highway 411 in reference to fraud. A store employee, Teresa McNabb, reported a man entered the store and brought a canned drink to the register. He paid with a $50 bill.  McNabb said the man began walking towards the front door, turned around and told her she gave him the incorrect change. She told the man she had given him his correct change. She told him she would count the cash drawer and asked him to leave his name and number. She said the man told her, "Call me or I'll be back."

McNabb said this was the third time the incident had occurred. She described the male subject as being slender build with a shaved head on the side but a ponytail on top.

On the same day, at about 4:30 p.m. Watson was dispatched to a possible theft at the Sloan's Center on Highway 360 in Vonore. Tomilee Proffitt reported a man purchased something and paid with a $50 bill. Proffitt said she gave the man his change in the amount of $49. The man told her that he did not receive his correct change and displayed $9.  Proffitt then handed him $40 and he left.

Proffitt said she then began counting down her cash drawer and noticed she was $40 short.
She described the male subject as being white, slender build with a black baseball cap and his hair put in a ponytail.

The incidents are being turned over to the Vonore Police Department detectives division for further investigation.
