TaiChi reduces stress, improves well-being

Published: 9:08 AM, 10/05/2009 Last updated: 9:10 AM, 10/05/2009

Get With It welcomes a wonderful and gentle form of exercise for our participants! Anyone, regardless of age or physical ability can practice Tai Chi; that's the beauty. Tai Chi emphasizes techniques over strength and helps those who practice to reduce stress, improve flexibility and increase feelings of well-being. Because Tai Chi creates movement without stress to the muscles and joints, it's perfect for those who have problems with movement or for whom arthritis is an issue.

Asian cultures have been practicing this art/exercise form for thousands of years. It is not uncommon to see people, young and old alike, up early morning in the streets of highly urban Tokyo, doing Tai Chi. In fact, even in some American cities where there are large Asian populations, it is not uncommon to see Tai Chi being practiced on neighborhood streets.

Who would not want to feel more energized, less depressed and more mobile?  Come explore this ancient exercise with our host trainer, Heather Kyle of UT Extension. Classes will begin this coming week at the GWI studio in downtown Madisonville. Classes will be from 10-11 a.m., Thursdays; $6 each or eight weeks for $48.

We look forward to seeing you in class!
