Tuesday night's town meeting was the first for the new Vonore administration. The agenda included several new committee appointments to replace people who have resigned.

During the campaign, most candidates agreed the town needs to move forward with plans for a new park. New Mayor Larry Summey appointed a park and recreational board to work on those plans as well as other activities in town. New Alderman Dave Evans will chair the board, which includes Vic Kirkland, Chris Hall, Chad Schafer, Chad Kirkpatrick and Lisa Hobbs. Summey also will serve on the board, with his wife, Paulette, serving as an alternate when he cannot attend.

Other appointments included:
Library board - Brenda Tipton and Roberta Cooper to replace Don Harrill and Darlene Lovingood.
Planning Commission - Allen Cansler, Harold Davis and Clifton Boone to replace Bill McElhaney, T.C. Dixon and Bob Wren.
Senior Activities Director - Edna Franklin to replace Joan McIntee.
The aldermen also approved the mayor's recommendation to hire Allen Cansler as building inspector. He will replace Daniel Boothroyd, who resigned.

The aldermen have been assigned the following departments: Hamp Brown, Fire Department; John Hammontree, Police Department; Mike Garren, Public Works.
The mayor asked all the department heads to conduct an inventory of city property and to include any equipment or items that need to be taken out of service.

The aldermen also approved the mayor's request to have an audit conducted.
Summey reported the roof on the Community Center has started leaking, but repairs had been made. The roof is the original one that was put on 21 years ago when the center was built.
"We will have to look at re-roofing that in the near future," he said.

The mayor also reminded everyone of the Fall Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17 at Town Hall.
The next Vonore Mayor and Aldermen meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10 in the courtroom of Town Hall.
