Two people were killed early
Wednesday morning in Tellico Plains when fire engulfed the RV they were in. According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Caleb Hadden Lawrence,
22, and Brittany Long, 17, were killed when the RV they were sleeping in at a residence on 324
Towee Falls Road caught fire. Deputy John Hunt said he arrived on
the scene around 1:05 a.m. and found the RV fully engulfed by fire. Lawrence's father, Johnnie
Dale Lawrence, told Hunt his son and Long were in the RV. Lawrence
was also reportedly injured in the fire, but managed to get out of the RV. Authorities said the victims' bodies were found in the rear of the motor
home. Tennessee Bomb and Arson investigators were called to the
scene to investigate the cause of the fire. The final determination report had not been released as
of press time on Friday. The victims' bodies were transported to
the University of Tennessee for autopsies as is standard procedure, the Sheriff's Office said.
Tellico Plains, Conasauga and Coker Creek fire departments responded
to the fire, along with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. The temperature fell below freezing the
night of the blaze.
