TELLICO PLAINS-A Tellico Plains veteran was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Rafter Road Sunday morning.

Tellico Plains Police Lt. Brian Millsaps responded to the accident call at 9:48 a.m. on Sunday. John "Tim" Wood, Jr., 73, Cane Creek Road, Tellico Plains was killed in the crash.

According to Lt. Millsaps, a certified traffic accident reconstructionist, John Wood and his wife Sandra Roberts Wood, 60, were traveling on Rafter Road toward Highway 360 in Tellico Plains in a 2005 Hummer when John ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected and ran off the left side of the road, flipping his vehicle down an embankment.

The vehicle ran over a Fort Loudoun Electric Cooperative guide wire during the accident, and the impact snapped the utility poll near the top.
