After two years in the court system, a
multi-million dollar lawsuit against the Town of Vonore was dismissed
in United States Federal Court.
Former Vonore Police Chief John Hines
had sued the town in 2010 after he said he was unfairly fired for
refusing to sit on accusations of sexual misconduct against another
police chief.
Hines was demoted from chief to
patrolman not long after Larry Summey was elected mayor in September
2009. A short while after the demotion, Hines was fired. Hines did
get to make a plea in front of the town council in March 2010, but
Summey refused to listen to him and left the meeting. See full story in the Wednesday, Dec. 12, edition of The Advocate & Democrat.
