The Lady Chiefs finished 1-1 in the
Cosby Christmas Tournament. Sequoyah won their first game with
relative ease, as they erased Halls 60-31. Against Cosby, the Lady
Chiefs couldn't capitalize on their trips to the line, and lost
71-60.
Five Lady Chiefs scored in double
figures to help topple Halls in the opening game. Laura Whited and
Emily Ingram both netted 11 to lead Sequoyah in scoring. Whited
pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double, while Hunter Simpson
came close to that mark as well, finishing with 10 points and nine
rebounds. Savana Atchely also notched 10 points, as Chancey Welshan.
The Lady Chiefs sure were happy to spread the scoring around in the
opening game of this Christmas tournament, and they weren't too
stingy with the defense either.
Sequoyah put the pressure on early, and
took a 15-9 lead into the second quarter. The offense added more on
and a 21-7 second quarter equalled a tough halftime score for Halls.
The defense didn't stop in as the third quarter started. Once again,
the Lady Chiefs held them to under 10 points but were outscored 8-9.
A 17-5 fourth ended this affair 60-31.
As a group the Lady Chiefs
pulled down 29 defensive boards and 10 steals. Kassidi Freeman had
four points, three blocks, and eight rebounds. Danielle Slack scored
three points while grabbing five boards, and Jessica White finished
with a basket and a rebound.
Cosby 71, Sequoyah 60
Sequoyah faced the host school, Cosby
in the second game. They Lady Chiefs shot 12-29 from the free throw
line and that proved costly as the game went on. Cosby exploded in
the first quarter to take a 12 point lead into the second stanza,
18-6.
The Lady Chiefs mounted their own 12 point run, outscoring
Cosby 19-7 to end the half tied at 25-25. A 31-18 barrage of scoring
from Cosby in the third, left Sequoyah with a tough climb in the
fourth were they managed another 17 points, but it wasn't enough.
Emily Ingram led the Lady Chiefs in
scoring with 16 points. Hunter Simpson netted 15 points while
grabbing five boards, five blocks and six steals. Laura Whited scored
11, and had five rebounds and four steals. Josee Weese added 10
points.
Kassidi Freeman had six points and three boards, while
Chancey Welshan and Jessica White had a point each. Savana Atchley
finished wirh four rebounds in the loss.
