MADISONVILLE-A member of Alabama law enforcement who was charged with kidnapping a Monroe County man last September had charges against him dismissed Tuesday.

Ronald Pate was indicted last October on charges of aggravated assault and kidnapping after he was reported to have confronted a man who got lost while bear hunting.

While the victim and law enforcement officials were preparing for a trial in the near future, state prosecutor Jim Stutts told Judge Amy Reedy the state didn't feel as if it had enough evidence for the case to proceed.

Reedy had no choice but to nolle the case, meaning it has been dismissed, but if more evidence turns up in the future, it can be brought back before the court.
