The town of Tellico Plains passed its
2013-2014 fiscal year budget on Thursday in a unanimously vote.
Under the budget, the town has a
beginning balance of $120,623 in its general fund.
Mayor Patrick Hawkins said $1,000 was
deducted from the Community Center fund and another $1,000 from the
City Maintenance/Repairs for a $2,000 contribution to the Tellico
Plains Public Library for a one-time deal to help fund the library a
"We already contribute $3,000 to the
library annually, so this would be a one-time $5,000 contribution," Hawkins explained.
In addition, the town had to trim down
a little on the water department end to balance the budget, said
"Other than that, everything else is
basically the same. No new money added from the first reading, just
deductions and shifting. There's no new tax revenue being asked for."
|The Tellico Plains Police Department
will sponsor a Trunk or Treat in downtown Tellico Plains on Halloween
night from 6 to 9 p.m. The department is asking area churches to join
in and participate.|
"It's a great thing," said Hawkins. "Our kids won't have to drive to Madisonville to trick or treat."
