The Tigers added a single run to their side of the
scoreboard in the home half of the fifth inning to raise
their margin to 11-1 and end the game under the mercy
rule.
Sequoyah was held to just two hits in the contest, singles
by Brett Hawkins and freshman Randall Coley. Those two
were the only Chiefs to reach base safely.
Freshman DeAndre Allen got the start on the mound for
the Chiefs and Adam Bushey threw the final frame for
Sequoyah.
Meigs County scored in each of the five innings played as
they collected sixteen hits.
Players with multiple hits for the Tigers included Jake
Rowland with three singles, Howie Meadows with a double
and a home run, Tyler Moore with a double and a single
and Dillon McKinney and Josh Nijwager got two singles
apiece.
Brandon McKinney doubled for Meigs County and Andrew
Howard had a single. Dakota McGinnis got the start for
Meigs County and threw four innings. McGinnis allowed
one run on two hits, struck out six and did not walk a
batter.
Nijwager closed the contest and allowed one hit while
striking out three.
After Sequoyah went down in order in the first, Meigs
County used three singles and two walks to take a 3-0
lead.
The Chiefs got on the board in the top of the second.
Hawkins led off with a single then stole second base.
Coley moved Hawkins to third with a ground out and Gary
Cagle got the RBI with a ground ball to second base.
Rowland singled and scored on a Meadows double to raise
the Tigers advantage to 4-1 after three.
McGinnis retired the Chiefs three up and three down in
both the third and fourth innings.
Meigs County added a single run in the third as Nijwager
scored ahead of a Brandon McKinney double.
The Tigers got the merry-go-round going in the fourth
with a five run rally capped by a two-run home run by
Meadows.
Coley led off the fifth inning for Sequoyah with a single up
the middle then promptly stole second base. Tiger relief
pitcher Nijwager ended that threat by striking out the next
three Chiefs.
The contest and Sequoyah’s season ended when Meigs
County added one run in the fifth as Meadows walked and
later scored on Dillon McKinney’s RBI single.
