Team Sequoyah Athletic Boosters host third annual golf tournament

Last updated: 10:41 PM, 05/13/2008

Had the tournament been scheduled for the morning, it
would have never taken place. Thunderstorms made their
way through in the morning, threatening to postpone the
tournament for a second consecutive year.

Fortunately, before noon, the rain cleared away and even
though the first six or seven holes were played under
overcast conditions, the rest of the day was sunshine and
blue skies.

Eighteen teams teed off with a 2 p.m. shotgun start in
hopes of taking home the first place prize of $400.
Despite a stiff wind blowing all day long, the Advanced
Cellular team of Derek Sircy, Steve Henry, Larry Watson,
and Matthew Watson turned in a score of 15-under-par
57 and cashed in for the top prize in the first flight.

Second place in the first flight went to the Vonore Quick
Lube team of Keith Bookout, Jerry King, Tony Smith, and
Richard Tyler with a score of 13-under-par 59.

First place in the second flight with a score of 4-under-
par 68 went to the Vonore Dental Practice team of Harvey
Phillips, Jack McDonald, TJ Moll, and Fred Baumann.
Second place in the second flight went to the A & W team
of Jerry Belcher, Chad Belcher, Shane Hawkins, and Wally
Akins with a score of 3-under-par 69.

In an unexpected gesture, both the Vonore Dental Practice
and A & W teams donated their winnings back to the
booster club.

The Advanced Cellular team took the secondary prizes as
well with Steve Henry winning Closest To The Pin and
Derek Sircy winning the Longest Drive.
In addition to lunch being served, door prizes were given
away just before teeing off. Booster club members Dave
and Beth Davidson co-directed the outing.

When asked for his take on the success of the day, Dave
said, ”It was the most successful tournament, yet. I would
like to thank all those that worked so hard on the golf
tournament, Bob Starcher, Jeff Roberts, Mike Peels, and
Don Workman."

The boosters would like to thank all of their sponsors and
especially their major sponsors of the event: Advanced
Cellular, A& W, The Advocate & Democrat, Gymnastics
Counts, Tennessee Watercraft, Davidson Dentistry, Vonore
Dental Practice, Rogers Dental Lab, Burger King, American
Landmark Homes, Citizens National Bank, and Alcoa Tenn
Federal Credit Union.
