A house fire in Madisonville claimed the life of a child last week.

The fire happened on Lincoln Drive last Monday night, however the cause of the fire was unknown as of press time this week.

Madisonville Fire Department responded to the scene, along with Tri-Community Fire Department.

Investigation of the fire has been turned over the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), which has issued a news release.

According to the release, 10th Judicial District Attorney General Steve Crump sent TBI special agents to investigate a fire fatality in Madisonville, with the assistance of the Madisonville Police Department.

The release also states that the victim was a minor child and the body of the victim would be transported to the Knox Regional Forensic Center for autopsy.

The victim’s identity was not released and investigation of the fire is still ongoing.

Madisonville Fire Acting Public Information Officer Sara VanLandingham stated that the Fire Department called the Red Cross to the scene the night of the fire.

“We automatically call Red Cross anytime that we have a family that’s displaced,” said VanLandingham.
