USDA Food Commodities will be distributed at the Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority’s Monroe County Neighborhood Service Center, located at 884 Englewood Road in Madisonville, on Thursday, June 24, beginning at 9 a.m. The distribution will continue until all food is distributed or until 2 p.m.

There will not be a separate commodities distribution provided at the Tellico Plains Community Center, therefore all Monroe County residents will need to plan on attending this distribution.

To ensure proper social distancing and the health and well being of all recipients, volunteers and staff, this will be a drive-thru service and no one should exit their vehicles or park at any time. There will be directions when you get to the parking lot showing you which way to go. Everyone is asked to follow the directions and stay in the line.

The distribution is offered through Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority, Inc., and is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture.

Eligibility will be based on proof of Monroe County residency and total monthly household income not in excess of the state-established maximum percentage of the poverty line for the appropriate house size. Recipients must bring proof of residency and have knowledge of their household’s current monthly income.

Only those with a household member present at this distribution will be able to receive the commodities. Douglas-Cherokee is unable to accept permission slips for picking up another household who is not present, as has been done in the past.

No one shall be excluded from participation in or denied benefits based on the grounds of handicap and/or disability, age, race, color, religion, sex or national origin.
