Allegedly being high and having kids in the back seat wasn’t a wise combination for a Vonore man March 9.
Madisonville Police Officer Jesse Moses said he was told of a reckless driver on Highway 411 who was all over the road in a green Kia. Moses was told the driver had pulled into the Dollar Tree parking lot where Moses found the vehicle parked awkwardly and the driver asleep.
Moses said he sat there for a moment and saw the driver briefly wake up, then nod off again.
Moses got out of his patrol car and approached the Kia and the driver woke up again and opened his door, noticing Moses. Moses said the man’s pupils were small and two children were in the back seat.
Moses identified the man as Cameron Turek and told him why he was there and asked if he could search the car due to him nodding off in the parking lot.
Turek said he could and Moses said he found some burnt aluminum foil between the seats and asked Turek if he’d done any illegal narcotics during the day. Turek said he hadn’t.
Moses didn’t believe him and placed him under arrest. He asked Turek to do a blood draw to test his blood for anything illegal and he refused. Moses said a check also showed Turek’s license was suspended.
Moses said the kids were released to Turek’s sister.
Turek, 32, Church Street, Vonore, was charged with DUI, child endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of the implied consent law and driving on a suspended license.
