The body of a drowned man was recovered from a lake by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday near Tellico Plains.

Det. Jason Fillyaw, who was the responding officer on the scene, stated they received the call to Indian Boundary Lake on Sunday evening.

“We got a report (Sunday) afternoon at around 4:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the evening, that a young man was attempting to swim across Indian Boundary Lake and went underwater and did not come back up,” said Fillyaw.

“Units arrived on scene, divers went down and found the young man’s body at about 6 p.m. (Sunday) and did confirm that he did drown.”

No further information was available by press time.
