A Sweetwater man wanted in Nashville was arrested by Madisonville Police Feb. 17 after running from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Madisonville Police Officer Jesse Moses said just before 9 p.m. he was advised that a man with active felony warrants on a motorcycle had taken off on Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Feree on Turnpike Road and was headed toward Madisonville on Highway 68.

Moses said he spotted the motorcycle coming down Highway 68 and turned on his bluelights at the 68/Englewood Road intersection. The rider responded by fleeing at over 100 mph.

Moses said he chased the motorcycle down Old Athens Road, onto Kinser Road and then onto Harrison Road where the rider wrecked the bike trying to make a turn.

Moses said he took the man, identified as Matthew Shane Garrett, into custody. He didn’t appear to have any serious injuries.

Moses said he checked and Garrett had multiple felony warrants out of Davidson County (Nashville).

Garrett, 34, Fire Dept. Road, Sweetwater, was charged with evading arrest and failure to render due care.
