That’s a long way up

The WMTY & WDEH Radio Station recently had maintenance work completed on its 266-foot tower located at its studios on Old Highway 11 in Sweetwater.

“There are a lot of things associated with maintaining a radio tower,” Station Manager Bryan Burchfield said. “Making sure the wiring is in good shape, painting the tower and making sure the lights are working properly, just to name a few things that have to be checked.”

On this maintenance check, the light bulbs had to be replaced on the tower so it will be visible to any aircraft passing by at night.

“I’ve witnessed our tower being climbed by maintenance crews several times over the years and it’s interesting to watch every time,” Burchfield said.
