Sequoyah (7-4) slipped past Polk County with a 55-47 win on Tuesday to move to 2-2 in District 5-AA play.

The Chiefs trailed 15-10 after the first quarter before settling in on their visit to the Wildcats.

Jackson Kuberka led the Chiefs with 19 points followed by Caleb Sloan with his season high of 14. Dillon Stakely contributed seven points, four of them down the stretch in the final quarter. Stakely has been averaging 18.7 points per game this season. Cooper Strickland contributed six points while Asher Dalton had five off the bench.

Preston Abdula finished with four points.

Polk County had three shooters finish in double figures. Led by Tannar Patterson with 16 points, the Wildcats put up a fight with the Chiefs. Caleb Milen finished with 14 points and Alex Armstrong had 12.

Sequoyah returns to action on Jan. 15 when they host McMinn Central in District 5-AA action.
