Eli Johnson scored 18 points to power Tellico Plains past Copper Basin 57-35 in the District 4-A semifinals on Feb. 19.

The Bears’ win completes a 3-0 sweep over the Cougars for the season and books a home game to start the Region 2-A tournament.

Johnson hit two 3-pointers in the opening quarter, paired with three more triples from Logan Cox to power the Bears to 27 points in the first eight minutes — Copper Basin had six points. Cox, however, picked up a technical foul and was ejected from the game.

Johnson hit two more 3-pointers on the night en route to a game high, followed by individual threes from Dylan Walker and Major Carter.

Evan Harris had a basket from the floor as well as going 6-for-8 at the line to finish with eight points. Jace Lynn had five points — four of those in the first quarter run.

With Cox’s ejection, the junior will be suspended for the District 4-A Championship as well as the Region 2-A quarterfinals — an elimination game. Cox finished with nine points.
