When Eli Johnson’s shot wrapped around the rim and dropped in he let out a shout and went straight to the bench, bracing for impact. Johnson was at the bottom of a dogpile, but moments later the senior lifted Tellico Plains past Copper Basin with a 48-47 District 4-A on Feb. 5.

The Bears move to 4-2 in District 4-A with the win, their two losses both being to district leading CSAS. With a five team district, the Bears can secure a spot in the region tournament by finishing in the top three. Currently, Tellico Plains sits in second, one slot above Copper Basin (3-3) with Sale Creek holding one district win followed by fifth place Lookout Valley (0-3).

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Bears will complete their District 4-A schedule on Tuesday, Feb. 9, but due to scheduling issues the game will not be able to appear in the Wednesday, Feb. 10 edition of the Advocate and Democrat.
