Sequoyah checked off a marquee accomplishment on Jan. 11 by defeating Knoxville West (3-4) 61-56.

The Chiefs traveled to West, a Class AAA program that houses one of the best players in the area, Will Biven, for their fourth game in five days.

Dillon Stakely, a junior, led the Chiefs with 25 points — including six 3-pointers, followed by Cooper Strickland’s 12 points and Caleb Sloan’s 11. Stakely hit two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter while also shooting 5-for-6 at the free throw line in the fourth.

Jackson Kuberka, who was held to one basket in the opening quarter, inserted his presence in the fourth quarter with two late baskets — finishing with eight on the night.

Sequoyah finished with nine 3-pointers, tied for the most in a game this season.

Biven, a junior for the Rebels, finished with 26 points.

Sequoyah (5-4) returns to action and district play tonight, visiting Polk County.
