Dillon Lloyd and Shane Gardner are on the same team again, albeit at a different school.
Lloyd, a former Hiwassee College baseball player, is transferring to Trinity International University, he announced via Twitter on Tuesday. Gardner, Lloyd’s coach at Hiwassee, is now Trinity International’s head baseball coach.
“Blessed to say I will be transferring to Trinity International University to continue my education and baseball career!” Lloyd wrote in a tweet. “Excited to get back after it with (Coach Shane Gardner)!”
Lloyd and Gardner both left Hiwassee when the school permanently closed last spring. Gardner was hired by Trinity International, a private evangelical Christian school in Illinois.
The Trojans went 5-11 across 2019-20 before the COVID-19 crisis forced their remaining games to be cancelled.
Lloyd, a Grace Christian Academy alumnus, totaled seven at-bats and two assists as a freshman for Hiwassee in 2019. Now, he will have a chance to continue his baseball career with the coach he originally signed to play for.
“Let’s go! Excited to get you in the program!” Gardner tweeted Tuesday in response to Lloyd’s announcement. “Tiger to Trojan!”
